Climate change
Environmentally conscious energy
At Victoria’s Green Energy we install wood burning stoves and solar thermal heating for homes. Solar thermal panels (carrying a heat exchange liquid, not electricity) can in summer supply up to 100% of your home’s hot water. At other colder and overcast times of year, a wood burning stove or super efficient gas condensing boiler can make up the difference.
As domestic energy bills have shot up, thousands are turning to wood and solid fuel burning stoves to replace all, or part, of their central heating. With VGE Homeowners have the opportunity to have a wood burning stove and solar panels installed that will save money and provide year round hot water and heating whilst reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
The need
Conservation of energy helps to reduce damage to the environment by cutting down exhaust emissions released into the atmosphere It is important to note that the concentrations of fuel emissions in the environment are as important as the chemicals they consist of.
Atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations climbed 2.28 parts-per-million (ppm) in 2008 to the highest level in at least 650,000 years — and possibly 20 million years reports the US federal agency The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
The average annual growth rate of CO2 concentrations this decade is now 2.1 ppm a year or 40 percent higher than that of the 1990s. CO2 emissions from the burning of fossil fuels are increasing at four times the rate of the previous decade. About 35 billion tons per year, are released today.
The increased levels of carbon dioxide act as a potent greenhouse gas, as well as acidifying the seas to dangerous levels, causing corals to die by dissolving their calcium carbonate. Other gases, including water vapour, combine with carbon dioxide to increase the capacity of the atmosphere to store heat from the sun. These gases form a heat trap. It is like getting into a car with the windows done up or going into a greenhouse on a cool but sunny day. Nobody knows exactly what the increasing Greenhouse Effect will do to the planet, but it is for certain that it will continue to warm up, resulting in long term weather patterns changing, seas becoming warmer making it impossible for fish to breed, sea levels going up as sea water expands or land based ice melts, and ever increasing droughts in the UK and in Africa.
The costs
Climate change is one good reason the UK needs to use more renewable energy.
However, there is another very good reason which is that since we have run out of North Sea Oil, we are dependent on foreign oil and gas imports, which too often are hideously expensive and variable.
Please do not wait for the winter when oil & gas prices go up, to ask us to install your green central heating system. During the summer it is much safer and easier to install, there is less rain, and longer daylight hours !
